Mont Tremblant has announced the launch of its new Fall Colours Index, a weekly visual guide designed to help visitors and outdoor enthusiasts track the progression of autumn foliage throughout the resort's vast landscape. The initiative kicks off in early September and will be updated every Thursday across the resort's social media channels.
The index functions as a colour-coded map of the mountain, showing which elevations and zones are experiencing peak fall colours at any given time. Rather than offering a single summary, it breaks down the viewing conditions across different areas of the resort, acknowledging that the vibrant display of reds, oranges, and yellows does not blanket the mountain uniformly or all at once. Higher elevations typically show their first signs of colour change before lower valleys, and the index accounts for this natural gradient.
This is the first year the resort has introduced a dedicated fall foliage tracking tool, reflecting a growing interest in autumn tourism beyond the well-established winter skiing season. Mont Tremblant, located in the Laurentians of Quebec approximately 90 kilometres north of Montreal, is best known globally as a world-class ski destination, but its surrounding forests draw significant numbers of visitors during the fall months.
The launch comes as Quebec's tourism industry has increasingly looked to promote year-round visitation. Autumn colour tourism, often referred to as "foliage chasing," has become a major economic driver for resorts across eastern Canada and New England, with visitors travelling specifically to catch the brief window when sugar maples and other deciduous trees reach peak brilliance.
Ski areas that rely heavily on winter revenue have recognised that investing in shoulder-season experiences like fall foliage viewing can help sustain local businesses and employment during months outside the primary winter sports calendar.
Visitors interested in using the index are encouraged to follow Mont Tremblant's official social media accounts, where the updated chart will appear each Thursday heading into October. The resort has not yet disclosed whether the tool will also be featured on its website or integrated into its visitor apps.
