The flurry of one-on-one discussions underscored New Delhi's commitment to leveraging the BRICS platform for a wide range of strategic, economic, and geopolitical priorities.
Among the key engagements were talks on energy security with Russia, where Modi sought to stabilise oil and gas supply chains amid ongoing global market volatility. Discussions with China focused on border management and the broader trajectory of bilateral trade, even as both sides navigated continued strategic competition. Meetings with leaders from Brazil and South Africa centred on South-South cooperation, vaccine and health collaboration, and reforming global financial architectures to better reflect developing-world concerns.
New Delhi also used the summit to deepen ties with emerging BRICS partners, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. Topics included direct currency trade settlements, infrastructure investment, and food security. Several discussions touched upon the Gulf region's evolving dynamics, with India reaffirming its role as a trusted partner to both traditional allies and newer member states.
India's foreign policy observers noted that the sheer volume of bilaterals was not accidental — it reflected a calculated effort to ensure that BRICS does not become merely a rhetorical forum but delivers concrete outcomes on trade facilitation, de-dollarisation experiments, and climate finance.
