Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Wednesday made strong allegations against Akash Anand, the party's former general secretary who was ejected from the organisation last month over alleged anti-party activities. Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, Mayawati accused Anand of concocting fake rumours regarding her health in a calculated move to create an impression of weakness within the party leadership.
According to Mayawati, Anand had reached out to her personal secretary through a phone call and specifically asked whether she was suffering from any illness. This inquiry, according to the BSP chief, came only days before Anand began circulating unverified claims about her medical condition across social media platforms and among certain media circles.
The expulsion of Akash Anand from the BSP came after a prolonged internal dispute. Reports indicated that Anand had been critical of the party's election strategy and had allegedly been in communication with rival political formations. His removal from the party ranks was formally announced by the BSP high command on August 15, citing violations of party discipline and code of conduct.
Mayawati described Anand's actions as an attempt to destabilise the party during a crucial period when the BSP is preparing for upcoming electoral battles. She stated that the former party functionary seemed desperate to project an image of disorder and disarray within her camp following his exit.
Party sources confirmed that Anand's team had indeed shared several messages on WhatsApp groups and social media platforms claiming that Mayawati was undergoing treatment and was seriously unwell — assertions that the BSP chief termed entirely baseless.
Senior BSP leaders present at the press meet expressed solidarity with Mayawati and condemned what they called traitorous behaviour by the expelled cadre. They warned that similar action would be taken against anyone found indulging in misinformation or attempting to undermine the party's unity.
