A disturbing incident in Assam's Nalbari district has left the state grappling with grief and anger after a man lost his life while in police custody and his wife was found decapitated earlier the same day.
According to local police, the woman, identified as 28-year-old Rekha Bharali, was discovered dead in a village near Sobran in the early hours of Monday morning. Her body was found with her head severed — a detail that has shocked residents and officials alike. Rural police station officials confirmed that the cause of death appeared to be decapitation, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Rekha's husband, identified as 32-year-old Arun Bharali, was taken into custody later that day in connection with the case. While being transferred between locations in a police van, Arun allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead.
Senior police officers stated that both individuals had been involved in a domestic dispute in recent days, though authorities have not ruled out any other possibilities. The district administration has launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Arun's death in custody, particularly how he managed to jump from the moving van.
