The decision was announced as part of the higher education department's ongoing efforts to address long-standing faculty shortages that have plagued institutions for years.
A significant feature of this recruitment drive is the mandate that all interview proceedings must be recorded through closed-circuit television cameras. This measure was introduced specifically to combat allegations of favoritism, quota manipulation, and other irregularities that have historically marred academic appointments in the state. Education officials stated that the video recordings would be stored for audit purposes and could be reviewed by regulatory bodies if complaints arise.
The assistant professor posts span multiple disciplines including arts, science, commerce, law, management, and technical subjects. Vacancies exist at both university-level departments and affiliated college campuses spread across divisional headquarters such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, and Ratnagiri. The recruitment falls under the Maharashtra Public Service Commission framework, which oversees competitive examinations and selection processes for state government educational institutions.
University teachers' associations had been pressing for years for these positions to be filled, noting that many existing faculty members are handling workloads far beyond their intended capacity. Some colleges report class sizes swelling because there are insufficient teaching staff to分担 the academic requirements.
