Tech enthusiasts are taking an unconventional approach to desktop-class gaming by repurposing the Lenovo Legion Go 2 — a portable handheld console — as the processing hub for a full 1440p gaming rig. The project, highlighted by tech channel OF Tech, shows that the device can pair with an RTX 5060 external graphics card through a specialized docking station, delivering performance that rivals many traditional gaming PCs.

At the heart of the build is a JSOX eGPU enclosure that connects to the Legion Go 2 via its USB-C port. The setup routes high-bandwidth data and power between the handheld and the discrete graphics card, effectively offloading rendering tasks that would otherwise strain the device's built-in silicon. Output is sent to a TCL mini-LED television, which provides the color depth and brightness needed to fully exploit 1440p resolution across modern titles.

The experiment is significant because it pushes the boundaries of what a handheld gaming device can realistically accomplish. While the Legion Go 2 was engineered primarily for on-the-go play at lower resolutions, this configuration shows it can function as a compact console at the center of a living-room gaming station — no separate tower or laptop required. Users report smooth gameplay at 1440p in several popular titles once the external GPU does the heavy lifting.

There are caveats, however. Cable management around the USB-C connection is notoriously tricky; the port on the Legion Go 2 sits in a position that can make secure cable placement awkward during extended sessions.
