Representatives of the All PM Package Employees Forum in Kashmir have formally petitioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking immediate protection for Kashmiri Pandit government employees and their families, who report increasing threats in the Valley. The forum stated that three distinct threatening letters have been received so far, with senders allegedly specifying recipients' names, home addresses, and even vehicle registration numbers—a level of detail suggesting organized monitoring.
The appeal underscores deepening anxieties among Kashmiri Hindus who have attempted to rebuild lives in the region over the past sixteen years since the onset of the Prime Minister's rehabilitation package. Forum officials highlighted a noticeable surge in intimidating communications and harassment incidents in recent months, describing an atmosphere of heightened fear.
Particular concern has been triggered by a series of targeted killings that have occurred since 2021. These incidents, according to the forum, have revived collective trauma reminiscent of the early 1990s, when widespread violence forced a mass exodus of the Kashmiri Pandit community from the Valley. Community leaders warn that without decisive security measures, the fragile process of return and reintegration could be severely undermined.
The petition calls on the central government to review existing safety protocols, enhance police presence in areas with significant Kashmiri Pandit residency, and ensure swift investigation of threats. Authorities have acknowledged the concerns but have not yet announced any new specific measures in response to the latest appeal.
