Mahdieh Pezeshkian, daughter of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, visited the Prime Minister Museum and the BRICS Bazaar in New Delhi this week, highlighting the warming trajectory of India-Iran relations beyond traditional diplomatic channels.
During her stay in the capital, Mahdieh Pezeshkian toured the Lok Man Mandir, which showcases the life and legacy of India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The museum visit was part of a broader engagement aimed at strengthening people-to-people links between the two countries. Her itinerary also included a visit to the BRICS Bazaar, a dynamic trade and cultural platform that brings together entrepreneurs, artisans, and businesses from the BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and newer members including Iran.
The BRICS Bazaar has emerged as a significant venue for small and medium enterprises across member countries to showcase their products, explore export opportunities, and build bilateral trade connections. Iran's participation in the bazaar reflects its growing integration into the bloc's economic architecture since formally joining in 2024.
Diplomatic sources indicated that the visit aligns with a wider push by Tehran to deepen commercial and cultural cooperation with New Delhi, particularly in areas such as energy, trade facilitation, and regional connectivity. India and Iran have long maintained strategic ties, notably through the Chabahar Port project, which serves as a critical gateway for trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia.
Observers noted that engagements like these, often involving family members of top leaders, serve as informal yet meaningful tools of soft diplomacy, reinforcing goodwill and mutual understanding between the two nations.
