The Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications has announced a fresh recruitment drive for Gramin Dak Sevak positions at post offices across India. The notification invites applications from candidates who have passed class 10th or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or university. With thousands of vacancies spread across multiple states and union territories, the recruitment represents one of the most accessible government job opportunities for youth holding only a secondary education qualification.
The selection process for GDS is notably straightforward compared to most other government examinations. Candidates are not required to appear for a written test or competitive exam. Instead, final selection will be determined purely on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying class 10th examination. Shortlisting will be merit-based, with candidates securing higher percentages in their 10th standard marks placed higher on the selection list. In case of equal scores, tie-breaking rules as per the official notification will apply.
Each selected Gramin Dak Sevak will be posted at a rural postal head post office and will be responsible for door-to-door mail and parcel delivery, collection of postal deposits, and other routine postal operations within their assigned area. The monthly remuneration attached to the position is approximately Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000, depending on the state and jurisdiction. Post holders may also be eligible for certain allowances as per existing postal department rules.
Candidates interested in applying must complete the entire registration process through the official portal at indiapostgds.gov.in. Applicants are required to fill in personal details, upload scanned photographs and signatures, and submit the application before the deadline specified in the notification. The recruitment covers a wide range of states including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and several northeastern states where vacancies are expected to be significant. No application fee is charged from general category candidates, while candidates belonging to reserved categories may be exempt from fees as per government norms.
