The investigation into a controversial hit-and-run case on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway has taken a significant turn with authorities adding an attempt-to-murder charge against the accused, Kalyan Bainsla, son of former Haryana minister Rajniti Bainsla. The charge was added alongside existing complaints of rash driving, criminal intimidation, and criminal homicide.
The incident came to light after a viral video surfaced on social media, showing a black Mercedes reportedly speeding along the expressway before deliberately ramming into a woman riding a motorcycle near the Pataudi crossing. The woman, identified as Sumitra Saini, was seriously injured and immediately rushed to a hospital where she underwent treatment for multiple injuries.
Police sources revealed that the black Mercedes reportedly fled the scene shortly after the collision, only to return later to allegedly offer false information to law enforcement officers. This inconsistency in the accused's statement, coupled with evidence from surveillance footage, contributed to the decision to frame additional charges.
Kalyan Bainsla, who is currently on bail granted by a local court, has been summoned for further questioning. His father, Rajniti Bainsla, has publicly apologized for the incident but denied any involvement in shielding the accused from legal consequences.
Legal experts note that the addition of an attempt-to-murder charge indicates that investigators believe there may have been deliberate intent behind the collision, rather than it being a simple traffic accident.
