The Gujarat State Government has formally notified the recruitment of 2,038 candidates for Anganwadi Worker and Anganwadi Helper posts across various districts of the state. The recruitment drive falls under the administrative control of the Women and Child Development Department (WCD), which oversees the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme — one of India's largest and most extensive social welfare initiatives.
The notification was published in the official government portal, confirming that applications would be accepted online through the designated recruitment website. Candidates wishing to apply were required to complete the registration process within the stipulated timeframe before the deadline expired. The department emphasized that only candidates who submitted their forms within the official window would be considered for the selection process.
Eligibility criteria specified that applicants for the post of Anganwadi Worker needed to have passed at least the 10th standard examination from a recognized board, while candidates applying for the Anganwadi Helper position were required to have passed the 8th standard or its equivalent. The age relaxation provisions were applicable as per government norms for reserved categories.
The selection process for these positions typically involved a written examination followed by document verification. District-wise reservations were applied as per the official weightage, ensuring representation across urban and rural areas of the state. The recruited workers and helpers will serve as frontline functionaries delivering essential maternal and child nutrition services, pre-school education, and health referrals through the anganwadi centres spread throughout Gujarat.
This recruitment drive is seen as a significant step toward strengthening the anganwadi infrastructure in the state, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions where access to early childhood care and nutrition services remains critical. The last recruitment notification for similar posts had been released several years prior, and the current drive aims to fill gaps created by retirements and attrition in the existing workforce.
