Secunderabad, Telangana — A former havildar in the Indian Army is at the centre of a probe into a significant arms heist carried out at a military establishment in the twin cities area, authorities said on Friday. Investigators believe the accused harboured a deep personal grievance against his former commanding officer, which is believed to have motivated the brazen theft of weapons and ammunition from a well-guarded armory depot.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the ex-serviceman, whose name has not been officially disclosed, was discharged from the army after a bitter fallout with his superior officer several years ago. The dispute reportedly involved allegations of professional misconduct and disciplinary action that left the soldier resentful. After leaving active service, he allegedly maintained connections with disgruntled elements who facilitated the planning of the heist.
The arms raid, which took place under circumstances that suggest inside knowledge of the facility's security routines and inventory, resulted in the theft of several categories of military-grade firearms and live ammunition. The exact number of weapons taken remains being verified by a multi-agency team that has been tasked with the inquiry.
Senior military officials described the breach as alarming, given that the establishment in question is considered one of the more secure armories in the southern sector. A court-martial has been initiated against the accused, and enquiries are underway to determine whether any other serving personnel may have aided the plot by providing intelligence on guard rotations and surveillance blind spots.
