Passengers waiting to fly from Delhi to Abu Dhabi faced an exhausting evening on Saturday when Etihad Airways flight EY217 was abruptly cancelled due to a technical fault in the aircraft. The Boeing 787, scheduled to depart from Indira Gandhi International Airport at 9:15 PM, had already begun boarding when crew members announced that a technical issue had been detected.
Approximately 200 passengers who had already boarded were asked to disembark, and the uncertainty stretched for several hours before the airline finally confirmed the cancellation. According to passengers, the initial information came directly from the cabin crew inside the aircraft — there was no immediate public announcement at the check-in counters or departure gates.
The technical problem centered on the wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which is known for its advanced systems but also requires specialized maintenance support.
