The announcement was made by the university administration as part of its ongoing efforts to fill critical leadership vacancies that have been lying vacant for some time.
The recruitment notification, which first appeared in media reports in 2019, indicated that applications would be invited from eligible candidates who meet the academic and administrative qualifications prescribed by the university for such senior posts. Principals in Delhi University colleges hold significant responsibilities, including academic oversight, administrative management, and representing the college before the university authority.
Satyawati College, located in South Delhi, is one of the older constituent colleges of the university, known for its programs in arts, sciences, and commerce. Zakir Husain Delhi College Evening, named after the former President of India Dr. Zakir Husain, caters primarily to working students and evening-shift learners, making it an important institution for non-traditional students across the capital.
The selection process for Principal positions in Delhi University typically involves a screening by a selection committee constituted by the university, followed by an interview stage. Candidates are generally expected to have a strong academic record, administrative experience, and a proven track record in higher education management.
Education analysts noted that timely filling of Principal positions is crucial for the smooth functioning of DU colleges, as leadership vacuums can delay academic decisions, infrastructure projects, and faculty appointments. The university had faced criticism in the past over prolonged delays in appointing heads to several colleges.
