Delhi University has announced a significant faculty recruitment drive, advertising 251 vacant positions of Assistant Professor across its various constituent and affiliated colleges. The recruitment aims to fill long-standing vacancies that have impacted academic delivery at one of India's most prominent universities.
Among the largest allocations, Daulat Ram College stands out with 121 Assistant Professor posts, making it the single biggest beneficiary of this recruitment cycle. Shyam Lal College (Evening Division) follows with 40 openings, underscoring the university's effort to strengthen its evening programme faculty.
The applications are invited through the official DU website at du.ac.in. Candidates are expected to meet the standard eligibility criteria set by the University Grants Commission, which typically includes a minimum of 55 percent marks in the master's degree and a valid NET/SET score or PhD qualification. Applications were open for a specified duration, after which shortlisting for interviews and demonstrations would follow.
This recruitment drive comes at a time when many universities across India have been grappling with faculty shortages. The Department of Higher Education had previously flagged that nearly 30 percent of sanctioned teaching positions in central universities remained vacant, affecting the quality of education and increasing workload for existing faculty members.
Delhi University, with over 170 colleges and a student population exceeding 132,000, has historically faced delays in filling faculty positions due to bureaucratic processes and legal challenges. The current drive is seen as a stepped-up effort to regularize appointments and improve the academic environment across its campuses.
