Delhi Police have successfully dismantled a robbery gang responsible for looting approximately ₹1.5 crore in cash from two victims in the heart of the national capital. Five accused persons were taken into custody following an intensive investigation, and authorities have managed to recover roughly ₹1 crore of the stolen money from their possession.
The incident occurred on the evening of September 7 near the Geeta Colony flyover. According to police officials, the two victims — a complainant and his companion — were traveling in an auto-rickshaw from Chandni Chowk towards Safdarjung Enclave. They were carrying a bag filled with nearly ₹1.5 crore in cash at the time of the attack.
Around 7:30 p.m., three individuals riding a motorcycle intercepted the auto-rickshaw near the flyover. One of the attackers brandished a weapon and threatened the occupants before snatching the bag containing the large sum of cash and fleeing the spot on their bike. The terrified victims reported the incident to the local police station, which immediately launched a coordinated probe.
Investigators traced leads through CCTV footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence. Over several days, the police tracked down the suspects and eventually rounded up five individuals allegedly linked to the robbery ring. During searches conducted at various locations, officers recovered approximately ₹1 crore in cash, while the remaining amount is believed to have been stashed elsewhere or spent. Police are continuing their efforts to locate the balance of the stolen funds and identify any additional accomplices who may still be at large.
Senior police officers praised the investigative team for the swift action that led to the arrests and partial recovery. The recovered cash and seized belongings have been handed over to the victims, who have been provided with provisional receipts for the amount returned. Investigations into the broader network of the gang are ongoing.
