Delhi police have registered a case after a man was robbed at gunpoint of approximately Rs 20 lakh in cash near the Hari Nagar area of the capital on Wednesday evening. The victim, identified as Satender, is reportedly an employee of a local businessman and was transporting the money in a bag for a scheduled payment when the attackers intervened.
According to police sources, the incident occurred near the Hari Nagar Ghanta Ghar, a well-known landmark in the western Delhi locality. Satender was allegedly walking along the route when unidentified individuals on a motorcycle approached him, brandished a firearm, and forcibly snatched the bag containing the cash before speeding away from the scene.
The accused are believed to have made their getaway on a two-wheeler, a modus operandi commonly seen in street robbery cases across the National Capital Region. Police have not yet disclosed whether any witnesses managed to note down the licence plate number or provide a description of the suspects.
Satender sustained no injuries during the encounter but was reportedly shaken by the ordeal. He provided a detailed statement to the police at the nearby Hari Nagar police station, leading to the registration of a first information report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with armed dacoity and robbery.
Investigators have begun examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area in the hopes of tracing the suspects. Officers are also probing whether similar incidents involving cash snatchings have taken place in neighbouring localities, which could indicate a coordinated gang operating in the region.
Delhi has witnessed a spate of high-value robbery cases in recent months, with criminals targeting businessmen and their staff carrying large sums of cash. Police authorities have repeatedly urged individuals and businesses to exercise caution and avoid carrying substantial amounts of money openly, recommending instead the use of banking channels for large transactions.
