Japanese multinational Hitachi is set to overhaul its consumer-facing retail operations in India through a comprehensive design partnership with D'Art, a firm known for end-to-end interior and retail space solutions. The collaboration aims to reshape how Indian consumers interact with Hitachi's product range — spanning home appliances, air conditioning systems, elevators, and consumer electronics — by introducing standardized yet immersive store formats that balance visual appeal with practical scalability.

The initiative comes at a time when Hitachi is actively expanding its physical retail footprint across major Indian cities. As competition intensifies in India's home appliance and consumer electronics sector — with rivals such as Samsung, LG, Voltas, and Blue Star investing heavily in branded experiential stores — Hitachi recognised the need for a cohesive design language that could be deployed rapidly without sacrificing brand identity or customer experience quality.

D'Art, which has worked with several multinational brands across India and the Middle East, will handle everything from spatial planning and visual merchandising to material selection and fixture design. The company emphasised that the new formats are built around three core principles: immersive design that tells a brand story, modular construction that allows quick rollout, and uniform execution that ensures every outlet delivers the same level of experience regardless of city or location.

Industry observers note that the shift reflects a broader trend among foreign consumer brands entering or scaling up in India. Companies are moving away from standalone corporate showrooms toward high-street branded stores and multiplex-style installations that place products directly in the path of everyday shoppers. The emphasis on 'scalability' in Hitachi's case suggests the company plans not just premium flagship outlets in metro cities but also mid-tier stores in tier-two and tier-three markets where rising disposable incomes are driving demand for quality home appliances.

The timeline for rollout has not been publicly disclosed, but early indicators suggest the first wave of redesigned stores will debut in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad before expanding further across the country over the coming months.
