Dubai-based cryptocurrency exchange Bybit announced the launch of Perp Options on September 18, 2026, introducing a new class of derivatives that bridges traditional finance instruments with continuous crypto-market trading. The platform described the product as the world's first trad-fi perpetual-backed options, available for trading on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis with clearly defined expiration dates.

Perp Options combine the continuous, margin-backed structure of perpetual swap contracts — which have no fixed settlement date — with the payoff mechanics of traditional options. This allows traders to express directional views on underlying assets while capping downside risk at the premium paid for the option. Bybit stated that the initial listing includes perpetual contracts tied to publicly traded companies SpaceX and Nvidia, alongside other supported underlyings, giving users exposure to both crypto and real-world equity-linked volatility.

As the second-largest cryptocurrency exchange globally by trading volume, Bybit's entry into this space comes amid intensifying competition among major platforms to broaden their derivatives offerings. Perpetual swaps have become one of the most popular instruments in digital-asset markets due to their leveraged, always-on nature. Traditional options, by contrast, are bound by expiration cycles and are typically restricted to conventional market hours. Perp Options aim to merge these two worlds, offering options-style risk management in a market that never closes.

Industry analysts note that the move could attract sophisticated retail traders and institutional players seeking more flexible hedging tools. However, regulatory questions remain about how such hybrid products are classified across different jurisdictions. Financial authorities in multiple countries have been scrutinizing crypto-derivatives offerings more closely in recent years. Bybit has not yet disclosed trading volume figures for Perp Options or detailed fee structures for the new product line.
