GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Police have added an attempt-to-murder charge in a hit-and-run case that has drawn widespread attention after a motorcyclist was deliberately run over by a vehicle on one of the city's busy roads. The enhancement of charges came after a preliminary investigation concluded that the incident was not a mere accident but a calculated act by the accused driver.
According to police sources, the victim, whose identity is being withheld during the initial stages of the probe, was riding his motorcycle along a major arterial road in Gurugram when he was struck by a fast-moving vehicle. The driver allegedly did not stop at the scene but sped away, leaving the biker seriously injured on the roadway.
Initial FIRs had registered the case under sections relating to rash and negligent driving causing hurt. However, after forensic analysis, telemetry data from the vehicle, and witness statements, investigators determined there were signs of deliberate action — including the speed of the vehicle, the angle of impact, and the fact that the driver made no attempt to render aid or even slow down.
"Based on the evidence gathered so far, it appears this was not an accidental collision," said a senior police officer involved in the case. "The charges have been enhanced accordingly."
The injured motorcyclist remains under treatment at a local hospital, with reports indicating his condition is stable but critical details about the extent of his injuries have not been publicly disclosed.
Gurugram has seen a rise in vehicular violence incidents in recent years, with several high-profile cases of road rage and hit-and-runs making headlines. The fast-paced urban environment, coupled with wide, poorly regulated roads, has often been cited as a contributing factor to such incidents.
Police have appealed to anyone with dashcam footage or visual evidence of the incident to come forward. The accused has not yet been taken into custody, and a manhunt is reportedly underway.
