Counting of votes for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections was underway on Saturday at the multipurpose hall inside the university sports stadium in North Campus. By the end of the first round, ABVP's candidate Yash Dabas had opened up a comfortable lead in the race for president, drawing 1,503 votes compared to NSUI's Vijay Shanker Meena, who polled 1,191, and AISA-SFI alliance candidate Ananya Rattodi, who secured 288 votes. A total of 3,270 ballots were counted in the initial phase before proceedings moved into the second round.
Meanwhile, in the contest for the post of secretary, ABVP candidate Reya emerged ahead of her rivals. The results for vice-president and joint secretary saw independent candidates taking an early lead, marking a notable shift in a political landscape traditionally dominated by party-affiliated student wings.
DUSU elections are among the most closely watched student polls in India, drawing massive turnout and intense competition across the three major political student organisations — ABVP, NSUI, and the Left-aligned AISA-SFI. The North Campus constituency, which returned these results in the first round, encompasses several prominent colleges including St. Stephen's, Hindu, LRDC, Gargi, Miranda House, and Jesus & Mary, making it one of the most contested segments.
As counting progressed into the second round, speculation mounted about whether the leading candidates would hold their positions or if late-round shifts could reshape the final tally. Election officials confirmed that all six polling stations in the North Campus constituency were reporting smoothly, with no major incidents disrupting the process. The final results for all four posts — president, secretary, vice-president, and joint secretary — are expected later in the day once counting is completed across all constituencies.
