Indian Railways has issued an advisory stating that a significant number of trains — over 120 — operating under the Delhi Division will be affected by scheduled disruptions from September 11 to September 13. The disruptions, which include full cancellations, detours, and running alterations, are being undertaken to facilitate essential track renewal and signaling maintenance work across key corridors in the national capital region.
Among the most notable services impacted are the Rajdhani Express and Vande Bharat trains, both of which are among the premium and fastest intercity services linking Delhi with major Indian metros. While specific train numbers have been listed in official circulars, passengers are being advised to check real-time updates on the IRCTC website or the NTES portal before boarding.
The maintenance window, spread over three days, covers parts of the critical Delhi–Mumbai, Delhi–Howrah, and Delhi–Chennai rail routes — some of the busiest corridors in the country. Railway officials stated that the works involve replacement of worn-out sleepers, welding of tracks, and upgrades to signaling equipment, all of which require temporary possession of sections to ensure worker safety.
To mitigate passenger inconvenience, Railway authorities have arranged alternate transportation, including bus replacements on select routes, and have authorized full refund for tickets of canceled services. Some trains have been rerouted through alternative stations, leading to modified arrival and departure times at key stops like Mathura, Agra, and Aligarh.
Travelers are urged to carry printed or digital copies of their e-tickets, verify train status before heading to the station, and allow extra time for travel during the disruption period. The Railway Ministry has also activated helpline numbers and SMS alerts for passengers seeking last-minute guidance.
